Chiefs’ Travis Kelce fined more than $14k for celebration after historic TD: reports


Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce celebrated his historic touchdown catch last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a nod to the legendary Tony Gonzalez.

Kelce dunked the ball through the posts like Gonzalez did throughout his Chiefs career and Atlanta Falcons. The touchdown from Kelce was the 77th of his career, passing Gonzalez on the all-time list.

But the celebration hurt his wallet more than anything else.

Kelce was fined $14,069 for “use of props for unsportsmanlike conduct,” according to multiple reports. Fortunately, Gonzalez seemed to know the punishment was coming.

“lol! I got you,” Gonzalez wrote on Xu, while also praising the dunk.

Kelce didn’t have the typical season that Chiefs fans are used to seeing. He got off to an incredibly slow start, not picking up his first hit of the season until the Las Vegas Raiders game on October 27th.

He has 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns this season. His receiving yardage total is the lowest since the 2014 season – his second year in the league. His touchdown total is the lowest of his career. In 2016, he had four touchdowns.

Kelce it was voted anyway to the Pro Bowl thanks to fan support. It is his tenth choice in his career.

Kansas City will close out the regular season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The team made it through the first round of the playoffs.
