Chelsea ‘arranged’ a loan deal with Juventus for the defender who is being chased by Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea agreed loan Renato Veiga is leaving for Juventus until the end of the season, according to various reports.
Versatile defender is connected with numerous clubs this summer. Napoli was briefly highlighted as a keen suitor, while Veiga did allegedly agreed contract with Borussia Dortmund, but Juve appear to have won the race for the 21-year-old.
The Blues were thought to be demanding as much as 29 million pounds for a permanent deal this month – Veiga arrived from Basel six months ago in a transfer worth just £11.8m.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Juventus have agreed a six-month loan. The Serie A side will pay €5m (£4.2m) before Veiga returns to Chelsea on June 30, in time for this summer’s knockout stages expanded World Club Championship.
Veiga has been highly praised by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca this season, praising the Portugal international for his versatility while giving him 18 appearances in all competitions – the same as first choice Jadon Sancho.
However, Veiga was frustrated by Maresca’s insistence on playing him as an inverted left-back who roams into midfield rather than a centre-back, according to BBC. Romano reports that Veiga will play in his preferred position at Juventus, who are short of defensive options following season-ending injuries to Juan Cabal and Gleison Bremer.
The Blues have already launched an early return for Trevoh Chalobah, dropping the former Crystal Palace loanee to Stamford Bridge, where he was quickly thrust straight into the first team against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
Chelsea are also investigating fresh recruits in midfield and challenge Arsenal in their quest for a a new striker.
