On January 2, 2025, Hindenburg Research published a report on Carvana (the Hindenburg Report). Hindenburg’s report said his investigation uncovered $800 million in loan sales to a suspected undisclosed related party, along with details of how accounting manipulations and weak underwriting fueled temporary reported revenue growth, all while insiders cashed in billions in stock. The Hindenburg report said the report was the product of an extensive review of documents and 49 interviews with industry experts, former Carvana employees, competitors and related parties of the company, conducted over 4 months, and that the company is subject to an undisclosed SEC investigation, according to Disclosure Insight, an intelligence firm according to to the Law on Freedom of Information.
