Caroline Dubois and Jessica Camara face off at weigh-in ahead of lightweight world title fight | Boxing news
Jessica Camara went toe-to-toe with Caroline Dubois after the weigh-in for their WBC lightweight title fight.
The Canadian challenger bored forward before Dubois held her back and Camara snapped: “Don’t belittle me!” after the two were separated.
Dubois will make his first WBC title defense on Saturday, live Sky Sports.
The champion warned: “This is not the end for me. This is just the beginning.
“She’s a pebble in my shoe right now and I have to get her out of the way.”
But Camara replied: “She won’t do it [anything].
“I have what it takes and that’s what I’m going to do.
“She believes in herself. I believe in myself,” she added. “I felt a little disrespected today so I just showed her what she had.”
Dubois still understood all this as a sign of weakness. “I see fear to be honest. I see a lot of fear, I see a lot of nerves,” she said afterwards.
Both fighters worked on weight for their world championship clash at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, with Camara 9st 8lbs and Dubois 9st 8lbs 5oz. The fight, with an added edge of ferocity, is on.
Callum Simpson and Steed Woodall also made weight for their British and Commonwealth super middleweight title fight, the former at 11st 13lbs and the latter right on the 12st mark.
“I’m ready for a 15-round war if I have to,” Woodall warned the champion. “I’m in phenomenal shape, I’m ready.
“Records are for DJs, it means nothing to me,” he continued. “All that matters is me and Callum in the ring.”
Hugely popular in his home town of Barnsley, Simpson’s supporters were heard at the Cutlers Hall weigh-in.
“It’s not just my journey, it’s our journey, they’ve supported me from day one,” beamed Simpson. “It’s a dream come true.
“It doesn’t matter the challenger, the champion, my mindset is always the same, to become the best I can be,” he continued.
“I believe the best Callum Simpson beats the best Steed Woodall.
“I tried very hard to get them [titles]I will try very hard to keep them… They will stay in Yorkshire.”
In another exciting contest, undefeated cruiserweight Scott Forrest takes on ambitious Londoner Deevorn Miller.
After weighing in at 14st 4lbs, exactly the same as Miller, Forrest subjected his opponent to intense viewing.
Smiling afterward, Miller, anticipating his own victory by stoppage, said, “We’ll see tomorrow. Talk’s over.
“The cruiserweight division is growing in popularity so there’s a lot to love.”
Forrest, a knockout in imposing condition, maintained the same intensity, declaring, “He can say what he wants, but don’t blink because he’s going to get splashed.”
Scotsman Sam Hickey will open the telecast, in a tough second pro fight against Lewis Howells.
Ready to make his mark in professional sports, former amateur star Hickey said, “It’s a different kind of energy. This guy is coming for me. I just have to stop him and stop what he can do.”
