California pastor helps give hope to wildfire victims

A California pastor whose church burned down in the middle raging forest fireshe says he wants to bring “hope” to the people of the state, despite the dire circumstances they are facing.

The people of California have been devastated by the numerous wildfires that have burned 27,000 acres of land around Los Angeles, according to a previous Fox News Digital article. It is suspected that at least ten people died in the fires. In a time of great desperation, as residents flee their homes, churches are coming together to give people the hope they need in these difficult times.

“For us, like churchthe walls of the building we were in burned down and so our goal now is just to be a church outside of those walls,” Expressions Church Pastor Christopher Spolar told “Special Report” on Friday. “We just want to be with the people, giving people the hope that we have and we know in Christ.”

Spolar, who says people in California have “a long way to go,” expressed the power of meeting people where they are, in the midst of their suffering.

“The first thing we do is not say anything. We just meet people where they are,” said the pastor. “There’s not a lot of words to say. A lot of people have lost everything. We have someone in our church who got away with only the things he could carry on his back and so there’s a lot of sadness, a lot of shock, so our first thing is we just want to sit with people, to pray with people and to remind them that we believe in the God of resurrection.”

“It was really nice to see the unity among churches and pastors that we are together in this, and we are one church,” Spolar reflects.
