BPL 2024-25: Mehidy Hasan Miraz shows ‘spirit of cricket’ after withdrawing Time-Out appeal against Tom O’Connell

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) witnessed a touching moment on the field as Mehidy Hasancaptain Khulna Tigers, had a special gesture for King of Chittagong‘with Tom O’Connell on Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. The incident received widespread appreciation in the cricketing community.

The incident took place while Khulna Tigers were playing Chittagong Kings with the latter chasing a total of 204 runs. Haider Ali was fired by Mohammad Nawaz which gave way to the arrival of Australian batsman O’Connell at the crease. But his arrival took longer than expected. Confused and frustrated at the waste of time, Hasan asked O’Connell to cancel the timeout. The field umpire ruled in favor of the Tigers, but after reconsidering his decision, Tigers captain Hasan decided to withdraw his appeal. O’Connell has already returned to the pavilion and has been invited back to the crease to bat for the Kings.

However, O’Connell failed to capitalize on the Tigers’ golden opportunity as the Australian batsman was dismissed for a golden duck Mohammad Nawaz who delivered a stellar performance for his bowl team. The incident revealed Hasan’s true sportsmanship. Had the Tigers captain not withdrawn his appeal, O’Connell would have been the first batsman in BPL history to be dismissed in this manner.

The only other incident of this kind in international cricket was when Angelo Matthews he was sent back to the pavilion during ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 in the match against Bangladesh when the skipper Shakib Al-Hasan executed a decision against the Sri Lankan batsman.

Khulna Tigers dominated Chittagong Kings to win their first match in BPL 2024-25.

Khulna Tigers have loaded a huge sum for Chittagong Kings to chase. Will BosistoAn unbeaten knock of 75 runs was the highlight of the Tigers’ batting efforts. Attachments from Mahidul Islam Ankon and Mohammad Naim played a crucial role for the home side to put 203 runs aboard.

In reply, Chittagong King’s effort with the bat was disappointing. Shamim Hossain he tried to stabilize the Kings’ chase with a valiant knock of 78 runs, but the continued fall of wickets at the other end and the Tigers’ huge total proved too much for the middle-order batsman. In the end, the Kings were bowled out for 166 in 18.5 overs. So the Tigers won the game by 37 runs.
