Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has reportedly attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, s move away from Stamford Bridge this month is becoming increasingly likely.
Chukwuemeka was taken away from his childhood club Aston Villa during Chelseafree transfer summer 2022 The England Under-21 international has been given just five senior starts in his two-and-a-half years in west London since his £20million arrival.
A combination of competition for places and a devastating streak injuries stands behind Chukwuemeka’s struggles. The leggy midfielder looked set to earn a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI as early as August 2023 but suffered a serious knee injury 15 minutes after scoring his first goal for Chelsea against West Ham.
The 21-year-old hasn’t recorded a single one Premier League performance under Pochettino’s successor, Enzo Maresco, and is understood to be keen to secure a January move to earn more first-team football. Borussia Dortmund is “closely monitoring” the situation, per Sky Sport Germany.
West Ham United used to be associated with Chukwuemeka – and his underused teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Chelsea are understood to value the former at £40million but would be willing to accept a loan move in the winter before a permanent move in the summer.
Chukwuemeka is not the only Chelsea player to leave Stamford Bridge this year. Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei was in charge a subject of intense interest from Turin over the winter but may now be on his way to Napoli after Antonio Conte’s side entered the race for his signature, per Gianluca Di Marzio.
Similar to Chukwuemeka, Casadei is a promising young midfielder who has not received a single minute of Premier League football. The 21-year-old is no stranger to Maresca, he spent the first half of last season on loan at his Leicester City, but this term he has not convinced his compatriot of his talent.
