Body of photographer missing for weeks discovered near Oregon coast
The body of the photographer who disappeared along the way The Oregon Coast he was found three weeks ago, authorities said Sunday.
Joseph Neill was found after workers at Clausen Oysters Farm called authorities shortly before 9:30 a.m. about a “possible deceased person found in Haynes Inlet” during an outgoing tide, Coos County Sheriff’s Office it is stated in the press release.
Deputies found the body, which was later identified as Neill. The tide swept Neill about 1.5 miles inland from the railroad bridge that spans Coos Bay at Jordan Point where his personal belongings were originally found on Dec. 15 — the day Neill reportedly left his home to photograph the king tides at Horsefall Beach and he never came back.
A Facebook page dedicated to finding Neil called “JoeStrong” said he was “pushed far inland by high tides when he went down.”
One of Neill’s children described him in another Facebook post as “survival fighter” who “could think of anything to help him through a difficult situation if necessary.”
In a statement, Neill’s family thanked everyone who helped in the search.
“We appreciate the support you all have given us and the dedicated search efforts over the past three weeks,” the post said.

The family store, The Electric Hospital, was closed Monday “as a day of mourning for our beloved Dr. Joe,” the family said in a statement.
“Please be gentle with our staff, who were like a second family to him,” the post read. “He’ll be reopening on Tuesday, just like our dad would have done, please stop by and don’t be afraid to use his name. He’s on our minds all the time, so the recognition is something we’re all grateful for.”
