Bellingham, Rodri and Palmer unstoppable midfield
Starry EA FC 25 The Team of the Year has been revealed, with the 27 nominated midfielders whittled down to just three making the final XI.
Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham was a prominent candidate for his exploits with the Spanish and European champions, while Rodri was ever-present following his 2024 Ballon d’Or triumph. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer has spent most of the year carrying Chelsea on his back.
Jude Bellingham couldn’t have dreamed of a better year. After he seamlessly transitioned into life at Real Madridhe collected both La Liga and the Champions League in a scintillating few weeks at the end of last season, finishing the campaign with a career-best 23 goals in all competitions.
Over the summer, his stoppage-time overhead kick against Slovakia spared England an early exit from Euro 2024, a catalyst for the Three Lions to reach a second successive final.
Rodri finished 2024 sidelined with an ACL injury, receiving his Ballon d’Or trophy on crutches in October. If nothing else, it highlighted how important he was Manchester Citysuccess, with the team’s form falling off a cliff without him.
The Spaniard was instrumental in City’s unprecedented fourth consecutive English title, while we were similarly instrumental in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024.
Not only has Cole Palmer been one of the best players in the world since joining Chelsea at the start of last season, he was an influential force off the pitch as well, with his deadpan interviews ensuring the attacking midfielder began to transcend his sport.
There were no trophies for Palmer in 2024, but it’s not worth thinking about where Chelsea would be without him, while his individual accolades tell their own story.
