Melbourne Renegades’ chase got off to a shaky start, with the pacers of the Scorchers Lance Morris, Jason Behrendorffand Jhye Richardson strike early. The Renegades found themselves in trouble, losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Sutherland steadied the innings with the captain’s knock of 70 runs off 45 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. His aggressive yet calculated approach kept the Renegade in the hunt. Rogers played a key role in the lower order, contributing 49 off 31 balls for the win, with four fours and three sixes and remained not out. Together, Sutherland and Rogers ensured the Renegades crossed the mark with just four wickets to spare, scoring 150/6 in 19.4 overs.

The Scorchers bowlers fought valiantly to defend a modest total. Morris, Behrendorff and Jhye took two wickets each, Morris being particularly frugal. However, their efforts were not enough to match the brilliance of Sutherland and Rogers. For his outstanding all-round performance, which included two wickets and a crucial knock of 49 runs, Rogers was named man of the match. His contribution with both bat and ball was instrumental in Renegades’ victory, keeping their campaign alive in the 2024-25 Big Bash League.
