Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid won their sixth consecutive Australian Open men’s wheelchair title.
The British pair have now claimed 17 of the last 20 Grand Slam titles in the format and 22 together, while they won their first Paralympic gold together last summer.
They were straight sets winners in the final in Melbourne, beating Daniel Caverzaschi of Spain and Stephane Houdet of France 6-2 6-4.
“I think the key thing is just never rest where we are and never be satisfied with our level, our performance and always try to improve,” Reid said.
“No matter what title we’ve won or what the number is, we always go back and review and see where we can improve and improve.”
Hewett will look to make it a double on Saturday when he takes on arch-rival Tokito Oda in the singles final.
Lapthorne wins eighth consecutive Quad doubles title in Melbourne
Andy Lapthorne claimed his eighth Australian Open doubles title, partnering Dutchman Sam Schroder to a 6-1 6-4 win over top seeds Niels Vink and Guy Sasson.
Lapthorne is a huge West Ham fan – and was encouraged by the club’s support. He hopes to be home in time to see them take on Aston Villa, who are live, on Sunday Sky Sports.
“My flight is, I think, tomorrow at 11 p.m. If I don’t delay, then I’ll get straight into the car and drive to Villa Park,” he said.
“If not, hopefully I’ve had a week off and maybe go to training and show off the trophy, meet some of the boys. I had some messages from Vladimir Coufal last night, which was really nice.
“It just hit me saying that he looks happy and things. They were amazing to me.
“A couple of guys from the media team have texted me saying good luck and saying they’re watching. It’s just nice to have the support of the club’s fans and the people at the club. It gets me going.”
Fifteen-year-old Brit Hannah Klugman missed out on the girls’ doubles trophy, losing to American twins Annika and Kristina Penick 6-4 6-2 along with Australian Emerson Jones in the final.
