AUS vs IND: Dhruv Jurel to replace Rishabh Pant in Sydney Test – report
In a crucial move ahead of the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, reports have emerged indicating that Dhruv Jurel is set to be replaced Rishabh Pant as an Indian wicketkeeper. The decision comes after Pant’s disappointing performances and ongoing fitness concerns during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rishabh Pant’s recent struggles
Pant’s form came under scrutiny as he scored just 154 runs in four matches at an average of just 22. His scores in the series were inconsistent, with innings of 37, 1, 21, 28, 9, 28 and 30. This poor performance has led to increasing speculation about his place in the starting 11 for the upcoming Test against Australia. The Indian team management seems to be seriously evaluating their options, given that Pant’s recent outings have not lived up to expectations.
Appearance of Dhruv Jurel
In contrast, Jurel he made a compelling case for the selection. He recently put in impressive performances for India A against Australia A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, scoring back-to-back 50s with innings of 80 and 68. His ability to deal with fast bowling and demanding pitch conditions has set him up as a strong contender for the role the gatekeeper. Despite his limited opportunities at international level – he has played just one Test this season in which he scored 11 and 1 – Jurel’s domestic form has been noteworthy. He also scored 93 runs for Rajasthan in the Irani Trophy against Mumbai, showing his potential as both a keeper and a middle-order player.

Change of strategy
While Jurel may not possess the same explosive batting style as Pant, his reliability could provide much needed stability to the Indian middle order. The team is reportedly looking for options that can improve their performance in conditions that favor seam movement and spin bowling.
