Aston Villa transfer news
Villanova have struggled with balancing European and domestic commitments so far this season, falling out of the picture Premier Leaguetop four as a result entering the second half of the campaign.
So it’s no surprise that they’ve already threatened to steal the headlines on multiple occasions during the January transfer window, as Unai Emery he wants to strengthen his team in order to return to the Champions League.
What should undoubtedly help them in their search for fresh faces is pending selling Jaden Philogene. Since returning to Villa Park this summer, the winger has struggled to break into Emery’s strongest side and is now closing in on a mid-season move to Ipswich Town, who are reportedly forking out more than £20million to secure his signature.
Looks like those in the Midlands are already getting ready to spend that money too. According to reports in Spain, Aston Villa are now willing to pay a €20m (£17m) release clause to sign Oscar Mingueza this month, and the work is reportedly already underway.

The right-back seems destined for Villa Park at the moment and will give Matty Cash alarming competition for his starting spot for the remainder of the season and beyond. Still only 25, the £17m fee could quickly become one of the bargains if Mingueza continues his Celta Vigo form in the Midlands.
“Revelation” by Minguez can replace Cash
Journalists called him a “revelation” at Celta Vigo Zach LowyMingueza’s potential arrival could spell the end of Cash’s starting role under Emery. The attacking work of the right-back is something to watch out for and a trait that should only add further excitement at Villa Park if he completes a move from Spain in mid-season.
A player who started out as a right-back more comparable to Cesar Azpilicueta at Barcelona, Mingueza is now a modern full-back who would undoubtedly help Villa in their bid for back-to-back top-four finishes.

While his creativity is impressive, Mingueza’s ability to win back possession is also a trait that should benefit Aston Villa if they can get a deal over the border.
Emery has already seen how much competition for places can push his players to greater heights, with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran’s goal-scoring battle a key part of the current campaign, and could now see Cash and Mingueza enduring a similar battle to start down the right-back for the rest of the season.
