Arsenal are planning a move for a £28m “serial winner” similar to Saka
Arsenal’s title hopes suffered another setback on Saturday night, a 1-1 draw Brighton & Hove Albion.
Mikel Arteta’s team started a Premier League game without any Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard or Kai Havertz, three of the top four scorers last seasonfor the first time since the German joined the club, and it could be said, with the Gunners lacking an attacking edge throughout.
Last season Arsenal scored 91 goals in the Premier League, most in one league since the title-winning campaign of 1952/53, while becoming the first team in English Premier League history to score 5+ times in six separate away league games in a calendar year during 2024. surpassing the previous record held by Sunderland in 1892 and Manchester City in 1937 from Fri.
However, the Gunners have scored either zero or one goal in nine of their 20 league games so far this season, for context, running away from the league leaders Liverpool they have only done so twice, stressing that attacking reinforcements are needed in January, especially given that their star Saka will be out for “more than two months“.
Arsenal in search of Bundesliga winger
With Saka out for some time and Ethan Nwaneri – who netted against Brighton last Saturday – set to spend some time on the sidelines with a muscle problem – new players are needed this winter.
Indeed, according to a report from Connor Humm for Football InsiderArsenal set their sights Bayern Munich wing Kingsley Coman.
Estimated at £28 million from football transfersthe French winger is currently under contract in Munich until June 2027.
How Kingsley Coman compares to Bukayo Saka
Labeled as a “serial winner” by European football experts Zach Lowy on Twitterand the winger won the league title during the first 11 seasons senior career, two with Paris Saint-Germainone with Juventus and eight at Bayern Munich, this could be the move that finally helps Arsenal cross the line on their own.
No player has won the title in four of Europe’s “big five”, it’s a fact that the Gooners will be hoping for change if Coman moves to North London this month.

Any wide player Arsenal can sign in the January window will be tasked with replicating what Saka produces, which certainly won’t be easy for anyone, but how do Coman and Saka compare?
Well, the England international blows him out of the water for goals, but there are some attributes that make them similar, s FBRef’s ‘similar players’ feature suggesting that Saka is one of the players most similar to the Bayern striker in Europe’s top five leagues.

Since August 2022, Saka has played twice as many minutes as Coman, with the Englishman racking up more goals and assists, as well as a frighteningly impressive goal tally – an xG figure of +9.2.
However, nobody Arsenal will be able to get their hands on in January will be as good as Saka, but Coman’s numbers suggest he could be a more than useful release.
The Frenchman was successful in almost half of his takeover attempts during this large sample size, something like that Gabriel Martinelli has been widely criticized for not working anymore, so Coman’s high-quality dribbling ability – who actually records more progressive transfers per 90 than Saka – could add an extra dimension to the Gunners’ attack.
He also scored an impressive number of goals four this season in just 885 minutes on the pitch for Bayern, so while Coman is unlikely to be Arteta’s dream, long-term solution, he could be a much-needed release this month.
