Arsenal recently lost star winger Bukaya Saka for two months through injury, while highly-rated young forward Ethan Nwaneri will also be out for weeks with a muscle problem.
This led to the suggestion that Arsenal are looking for a new striker in January as interim sporting director Jason Ayto and the club’s recruitment team try to give Arteta the best possible chance to catch Liverpool at the top Premier League.

There are also reports that the north Londoners are considering a new midfielder, with the long-term futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho in doubt.
Juventus’ Douglas Luiz is clearly back on Arsenal’s radarwhile also arguing that Arteta is weighing up a move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.
Of course, as is the nature of January, reports of a possible new Arsenal body are heating up – with Arteta claiming the possibility of an extra player arriving ahead of the February 3 deadline.
“Whatever is on the market, we are very careful,” shelp Arteta before the 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.
“But the priority is to work with the players we have at the moment and tomorrow night, which is a big night for us. It’s not a yes, it’s not a no.”
A potential transfer opportunity for Arteta and Ayta comes in the form of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, who has just 18 months left on his Camp Nou contract.
This was reported by the Spanish media Arau’s departure from Barcelona cannot be ruled out in Januaryas the Uruguay international and his club have yet to make progress on agreeing new terms.
Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this week that Arsenal want to sign Araujo immediately and are ready to make an offerand this was corroborated by reporter Rudy Galetti in an update to TEAMtalk.
Galetti’s sources state that Arteta’s side have been in contact with Barca over a mid-season transfer and that they made contact with them a few days ago.
According to his information, Arsenal making a bid for Araujo is a “real and inevitable possibility”and they are trying to tempt the South American to move to England.
However, they face stiff competition from Serie A heavyweights Juventus, who have identified Araujo as a key transfer target to replace the injured Gleison Bremer. Barca reportedly values him around 42 million poundsbut the centre-back is tempted by a move to the Premier League and is open to leaving.
Despite only just returning from a hamstring injury and still awaiting his first appearance in La Liga this season, Hansi Flick highlighted Araujo as the “real leader” of the team.
