Afghan suspect arrested after two killed in knife attack in German park Reuters
BERLIN (Reuters) – A 28-year-old Afghan man was arrested after a knife attack in a park in the German city of Aschaffenburg on Wednesday that killed two people, including a small child, police said.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene in Schoental Park, an English-style garden in the Bavarian city, where the attack took place around 10:45 GMT.
A 41-year-old man and a two-year-old boy were fatally injured, the police announced in a post on the social platform X. Two seriously injured people are undergoing hospital treatment.
Police said there were no leads on further suspects and there was no danger to the public.
The stabbing follows a series of violent attacks in Germany that have raised security concerns and fueled tensions over migration ahead of parliamentary elections on February 23.
A Saudi doctor was arrested after a car attack on a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg on December 20, in which six people were killed and around 200 injured.
