A pregnant teacher from California has been declared brain dead after falling into a gorge while on holiday in Greece
A pregnant high school teacher fell to her death on vacation on the island of Crete, according to the Greek media.
Clara Thomann, 33, was pronounced brain dead after falling about 164 feet into a gorge near Preveli Monastery in the Rethymno region on Dec. 23, according to Greek reporter. She suffered multiple head and chest fractures, and her unborn child died in the fall, according to a local news service Nea Kriti.
A science teacher from Santa Barbara, who taught at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, was pronounced dead on December 29.

The woman’s family decided to donate her organs, including her liver, kidney and cornea, Chania General Hospital said in a statement.
“Clara’s injuries are insurmountable and she has been declared brain dead…we are all heartbroken,” her family wrote in a post on Caring Bridge.

“Clara loved to help and teach others,” her family wrote. “Of course, she is an organ donor and we are pleased to report that her heart, liver and pancreas have already been accepted for donation.”
Thomann was traveling with her partner Elliott Finn, according to reports Los Angeles Times.

Dos Pueblos High School Principal Bill Woodard said Santa Barbara outlet Noozhawk that “there are no words to describe the sadness we feel.”

“Mrs. Thomann was so kind and such a great teacher who loved her students and science. Our hearts break for her family and for all of us who feel this loss,” Woodard said.
