WATCH: Oshane Thomas concedes 15 runs off one delivery during BPL 2024-25

West Indies pacer Oshane Thomas experienced a bizarre outing during Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 match between Khulna Tigers and Chittagong Kings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Representing the Tigers, Thomas was tasked with defending a daunting total of 204 runs. Opening the bowling, he endured a remarkable 12 which became the highlight of the match due to its sheer unpredictability and unusual length.

15 runs off one ball: A nightmare start for Oshane Thomas

The first ball of Thomas’ over set the tone for the chaos that ensued. Delivered as a no-ball, a free-kick ensued which was Naeem Islam he sent a huge six, instantly adding 7 runs to the scoreboard. However, the drama did not stop there. Another delivery made the misery worse, this time Islam hit a boundary, taking the total from that one legal delivery to a whopping 15 runs. This sequence marked one of the rare occasions when a bowler conceded such a large number of runs from just one correct ball.

Accuracy struggles: No balls and goals galore in BPL 2024-25

Thomas’ inability to find his rhythm continued as the over progressed. He kicked two goals and three more without the ball, further inflating the Kings’ score and frustrating his team. Despite his raw pace, his lack of control allowed the opposition to take advantage of free hits and extra deliveries. By the time Thomas managed to deliver two correct dot balls, the over was already out of control, leaving the Tigers under pressure.

Redemption in the midst of chaos: The wicket for the end of the over

Amid the carnage, Thomas managed to find a silver lining. On the fifth legal delivery of the over – after a series of additions – he induced a lead off Islam, which resulted in a crucial dismissal. The goal made it somewhat easier for the Tigers camp, but the damage was already done. By the end of the over, Thomas had taken 12 strikes, conceding 18 runs, 15 of which came from the first legal ball alone.

Recognizing Thomas’ problems, the Tigers captain decided not to return him to the attack for the rest of the game. Despite his shaky performance, the Tigers managed to secure a convincing 37-run win, thanks to a strong batting led by William Bosisto and Mahidul Islam Ankonboth of whom hit half centuries. Kings late resurgence, fueled Shamim Hossainscored 78 off 38 balls, fell short in the end.
