Pep leaves Manchester City, Liverpool remain undefeated and Arsenal win the Champions League
Another year is almost over, and what a year it was.
We saw England fall behind again, Liverpool build on Jurgen Klopp, Manchester City maintain their dominance before suffering an incredible slump and more unrest and frustration at Manchester United.
So what will 2025 bring? Here we bring you our (in some cases wild) predictions for the next 12 months.
1. Liverpool will remain unbeaten until the end of the Premier League season
Arne Slott has been a revelation since succeeding Klopp at Anfield, calming the chaos and bringing out the best in a Liverpool squad that stands above all others.
The Merseysiders have lost just once this season in the league – a surprise home defeat to Nottingham Forest in September – and that will be the only tick in the defeat column come May.
Liverpool still have to go to Manchester City, Aston Villa and Chelsea, but that won’t worry them.
Slots people will finish the title by April.
2. Guardiola will leave Manchester City at the end of the season
He may have recently signed a new contract that ties him to the club until June 2027, but Guardiola will quit in May after City fail to secure a Champions League spot.
The Catalan has shown visible signs of stress in recent weeks and will decide to leave after the trophy period at the Etihad.
However, Barcelona’s influence will remain as Xavi has been named as his successor.
3. English clubs will win all three European trophies
After the first league crown eluded him once again, Arsenal will successfully turn to conquering Europe. Mikel Arteta’s team will win the Champions League after beating Real Madrid in the final.
Tottenham will win the Europa League with a double in north London with Ange Postecoglou vindicated for sticking to his principles and maintaining his all-out attacking approach.
And Chelsea will win the Conference League as they should given the investment in their squad and the fact that the competition is frankly rubbish!
4. Xabi Alonso takes over Real Madrid
Madrid will bid an emotional farewell to Carlo Ancelotti after finishing third in La Liga behind Barcelona and title winners Atletico Madrid and failing to retain their Champions League crown.
Former Madrid midfielder Alonso will take the place after a successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen.
His first act will be to confirm the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool on a free transfer.
5. Declan Rice named England captain
Harry Kane’s impact on the team will diminish as he continues to underperform for his country, losing his starting place in the process.
And new boss Thomas Tuchel will put his stamp on the Three Lions by appointing Rice as his full-time captain.
Arsenal man Rice impresses on and off the pitch as England win every game in 2025 after being handed a relatively clear qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup.
