MSNBC political analyst Eddie Glaude Jr. claimed during an online chat Monday that hate, greed and selfishness are at the heart of President-elect Donald Trump’s political movement.
“So this is a really important point, isn’t it? In the sense that you always had those three components and Ronald Reagan was able to balance them in interesting ways. And so we have a plutocrat, right, in Elon Musk, right? Greed, you know, withdrawing, sort of advancing his interests, and you have right-wing populism, right-wing populism that sometimes expresses itself in terms of emphasizing the American worker, but it takes the form of xenophobia, it takes the form of nativism, it takes the form of hatred,” he said Glaude, pointing out that the three elements of the modern Republican Party are corporatists, libertarians, and nativists.
MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace he strongly agreed with Glaude during the conversation and argued that understanding Trumpism was key to his victory.
“So we have a collision of greed and hate right in front of us and that’s at the heart of Trumpism, MAGAism. It’s always been greed, it’s always been selfish, it’s always been hate and now it’s totally, totally visible,” Glaude said.

Glaude encouraged people to understand the cracks in the Trump movement, as he and Wallace discussed disagreements among party members over H-1B visas.
MAGS figures have been in a row online after Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, co-chairs of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), shared their support for H-1B visas for skilled workers.
But another faction of Trump’s base, led by Steve Bannon, opposes H-1B visas. Bannon called the visa system a “fraud” that “steals American jobs and brings what is essentially becoming a lower-wage indentured servitude.”
Trump said he supports H-1B visas and has admitted to using them on some of his properties.

Others lashed out at Trump and his supporters heading into 2024, including former CNN host Don Lemon.
Lemon said that Trump’s supporters are a “cult” and bluntly asked: “How dumb and stupid are you?”
Lemon called supporters Trump’s “stupid fucking idiots” and mocked their “stupid MAGA brains,” during episode of the Don Lemon Show.

“You’re so fucking stupid and you deserve it. You fucking deserve it because you’re so stupid,” he said. “Yes, I rejoice in your stupidity.”
