Michail Antonio released from hospital after car accident
West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has been released from hospital just over three weeks after a horrific car crash in Epping Forest, Essex.
Antonio had to be airlifted to a London hospital after crashing into a treeremaining trapped in the vehicle. The next day he underwent surgery on his broken leg.
The 34-year-old Jamaica international, who is out of action this season due to injury, spent Christmas Day in hospital but is understood to be well enough to recover at home.
West Ham they raised almost £60,000 to donate to the NHS and Air Ambulance charities in recognition of the support Antonio received by auctioning match-worn shirts and matching the amount.
A statement from the Hammers this week read: “Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail following the accident.”
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen dedicated the victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers two days after the accident to Antonio.
“It was special to see the West Ham family and the wider football community come together in support of Mic,” said the winger.
“We are all grateful for the care that both the NHS and Air Ambulances UK have given Mic during a challenging time. I want to thank everyone for helping us raise an incredible amount of money for two great causes.”
