Liverpool ‘relaxed’ on the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool are said to be “relaxed” about the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who are days away from entering the final six months of their deals.
The two stars are among the best at the moment, but are watching their current deals draw ever closer to expiry, with Van Dijk and Salah free to discuss deals with overseas clubs as early as January.
However, as he noted The TimesLiverpool are well aware that the tight January deadline is almost always exploited behind the scenes, with both Van Dijk and Salah likely already familiar with offers on the table from elsewhere.
Those responsible believe that the duo wants to stay on Liverpool despite interest in their services, with Anfield chiefs unconcerned that negotiations could drag on for the next few months.
Offers have been sent to both players and Liverpool will continue talks with Van Dijk and Salah in the hope of sealing two top-flight contract extensions.
However, that same confidence is not shared when it comes to right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is also expiring.
Reports in Spain yes Alexander-Arnold has expressed his desire to join Real Madrid were rejected by Liverpool ECHObut there is an acceptance that talks with the defender are different to those involving Van Dijk and Salah as Alexander-Arnold is only 26 and still has a significant career ahead of him.
