Legos crashed into a pile on a kid-friendly New Year’s Eve balloon
New Year’s celebrations were cut short for families after a Lego block with balloons crashed into the crowded arcade in Massachusetts.
Peabody Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post that multiple people were injured when a plastic Lego display fell from a mezzanine at the In the Game arcade in Peabody.
According to the arcade’s Facebook page, they hosted a “noon welcome party” on Tuesday afternoon.
Peabody Fire Chief John Dowling told Fox News Digital they received a call about a partial ceiling collapse at the arcade shortly after noon.

After arriving at the scene, Dowling said crews discovered that it wasn’t the ceiling that had collapsed, but that the Lego bricks, which were 12 feet tall, had fallen on a group of people during a failed New Year’s Eve balloon drop.
Dowling said the balloons were supposed to be released from the display during the party and it appeared a person pulled too hard on the display, causing it to tip over.

Dowling said 10 people suffered minor injuries. Eight were taken to hospital for treatment, while two refused medical transport.
Of those eight who sought treatment, Dowling said three were adults and five were children, who mostly suffered cuts and scrapes.
Lawren Turco, who attended the event with her family, he told WBZ-TV that it is “pure chaos”.

“We watched the whole balloon come down and we had no idea anything had happened until we left right after the balloon went down,” Turco described to WBZ-TV.
“Big LEGO pieces were everywhere, kids were crying, there were a bunch of people in the office, some with ice packs over their heads, and people letting their kids steal Lego pieces as souvenirs. It was pure chaos. I had no idea of the true events. until the incident,” continued Turco.
