Exclusive: “Talks I’ve had…” – Arsenal’s interest in PL star transfer confirmed
Arsenal appear to have genuine interest in a potential move for Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, according to Charles Watts.
Speaking exclusively for CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Watts explained that he was not surprised to see the Gunners eyeing Cunha after his good form for Wolves of late.
It seems the Brazil international could clearly have it in him to make the move to a bigger club, but the one question at the moment is that Wolves will surely do everything they can to keep him as they find themselves in the relegation battle. .
Arsenal option for the desired Chelsea star!
However, Arsenal also have big needs at the moment as they are set to be without star man Bukayo Saka for probably around two months, meaning Mikel Arteta could do well to bring in a boost or two in attack this January.
Watts expects we could see Arsenal try to do something, even if big moves are more likely in the summer than the winter, but Cunha looks like a tricky job to do.
Transfer of Matheus Cunha: Arsenal’s interest confirmed, but the deal looks difficult
“It’s still early days for Arsenal, obviously in terms of how they’re going to behave without the injured Bukaya Saka,” Watts said.
“Arsenal are always reluctant to do business in January and the message going into this window through the conversations I’ve had has always been that the club will be reactive rather than proactive in the market.
“That’s understandable, but this seems like something they have to react to. Losing Saka for about ten weeks is a heavy blow. It’s that simple.
“I don’t think anyone who comes has to be a replacement for someone similar. They just need another option who can play in the front line and can provide goals and assists.
“I’m a big fan Matheus Cunha and Arsenal’s interest in him it makes a lot of sense. I understand, however, it would be very difficult to lure him away from Wolves in the middle of the season when they are fighting for relegation.”
