David Warner joins PSL 2025 draft after IPL auction disappointment


Former Australian opener David Warner has taken a significant step by officially registering for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 draft. David Warner will enter the Pakistan Super League draft for the first time since his ban and this has sent the cricketing community into a frenzy on social media.

Warner, who turned down an offer to play in the Pakistan Super League in 2019, has now applied for the PSL 10 draft to be held on January 11 in Balochistan. The move comes after Warner went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction in November last year, despite commanding a base price of Rs 2 crore.

On December 31st, the official PSL account on X (formerly Twitter) announced the exciting news that David Warner has officially applied for the PSL draft.

“”COMPLETION IN 2024. ULTIMATE. Australian powerhouse David Warner has registered for the PSLDraft!” wrote PSL’s official manuscript wrote.

David Warner is considered a T20 legend, having scored 3,277 runs in 110 T20I matches at an average of 33.43 and a strike rate of 142.47, with 28 half-centuries and a highest score of 100 not out. The left-handed batsman has scored 12,540 runs in 389 T20s at an average of 36.66 and a strike rate of 140.15.

David Warner Unsold in IPL 2025 Mega Auction

David Warner applied for the IPL 2025 auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore but remained unsold after a poor IPL 2024 season where he scored just 168 runs with one fifty for Delhi Capitals. Warner remains the highest overseas run-scorer in IPL history with 6565 runs, including four centuries and 62 fifties.

Warner’s IPL journey started with Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) in 2009, where he played till 2014. SRH signed him in 2014, made him captain in 2015, and he led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their first IPL title 2016. However, his tenure with SRH ended badly during the IPL 2021 season.

The 38-year-old is currently playing for Sydney Thunder in the 2024/25 Big Bash League. and could potentially become a regular in the Pakistan Super League in the coming years.

David Warner is the second highest run-scorer for Australia in all formats

David Warner amassed 18,995 runs in 383 international matches across formats, including 49 centuries and 98 half-centuries. He is behind Ricky Ponting (27,368) in most runs for Australia. Warner’s last appearance for Australia was in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the Super 8.

He is a three-time World Cup winner, having won the ODI World Cup titles in 2015 and 2023 and the T20 World Cup in 2021. Currently, Warner is part of the commentary panel for the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.
