Arne Slot explains Trent Alexander-Arnold’s sharp Liverpool celebration amid Real Madrid links
Liverpool manager Arne Slot coyly remarked that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal celebration against West Ham “probably tells you enough”.
The progressive right back is stuck transfer speculation throughout the season, with rumors peaking over the weekend as more reports in Spain claimed the soon-to-be free agent has finalized a move to Real Madrid next summer.
Alexander-Arnold scored Liverpool’s fourth goal during 5-0 walk against West Ham on Sunday night, producing arguably his best performance of the season just as his future appears uncertain. From January 1 onwards, the 26-year-old will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
His fellow defender Virgil van Dijk and a prolific striker Mohamed Salah are in the same contractual limbo as Alexander-Arnold.
However, despite the increasingly loud talk about the transfer, Arne Slot remained completely indifferent. “I don’t think it’s negative at all,” he said Liverpool the boss said of his quarterback. “He’s playing really well, he scored a great goal and the way he celebrated probably tells you enough.”
After watching his long-range effort whizz past a helpless Alphonse Areola, Alexander-Arnold raised his right hand to his ear and moved his fingers in a speaking motion.
“I don’t think I need to say too much about that,” Slott continued. “I’m really happy with Trent, like I am with Mo and Virgil. It makes no difference to me. Maybe there’s more going on in the media [with Alexander-Arnold] than the remaining two, but I’m really happy with three.”
Liverpool’s evisceration of West Ham it marked their last game in 2024 and thus the club’s last outing before the January transfer window opens, leading to the existing number of speculations rising every day. Maintaining a fervent indifference, Slott insisted that nothing would change – at least within his team.
“Not from the inside, but from the outside,” admitted the Dutch coach, “definitely it is because people are talking more about it, not only about these three but also about other players.
“So there will be some that we bring in or some that might leave as well.”
