The Sudanese army suppresses the rebels in the second city of Omdurman | Military news
The army takes control of RSF territories in Mansoura, Murabaat and Elfitihab, and seizes a weapons and ammunition depot.
SudanCroatian military forces claim to have advanced into Omdurman, the country’s second-largest city, seizing some areas previously controlled by a rival rebel group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Fighting reportedly raged in the city, located directly across the Nile River from the capital Khartoum, for a second day on Wednesday. The army has now taken control of former RSF territories in Mansoura, Murabaat and Elfitihab, according to Hiba Morgan, Al Jazeera’s Sudan correspondent.

The Omdurman campaign is part of a new phase of the war that broke out in April 2023, with fighting largely concentrated in Khartoum and the last contested state in the vast western Darfur region. Tens of thousands of people died in the conflict and millions were displaced.
In a post on social media, our correspondent said that RSF fighters are using drones to try to stop military gains.
The Sudan Tribune also confirmed the advance, adding that three military officers had been released from captivity.
He reported that government soldiers had seized a weapons and ammunition depot maintained by the RSF, as well as warehouses containing flour and sugar.
Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah told the newspaper that the release of the three officers followed a special operation that killed up to 20 RSF fighters, including the commander.
Al Jazeera could not independently verify the statement.
The military gains come after the United States determined that the RSF had “committed genocide” in Sudan and imposed sanctions on its leader Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagal.
International agencies accused both the RSF and government forces of crimes and war crimes.
