German retail sales unexpectedly fall in November Reuters
(Reuters) – Retail sales in Germany unexpectedly fell in November, data showed on Wednesday, despite hopes for a boost from pre-Christmas sales such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Retail sales decreased by 0.6 percent in real terms compared to the previous month, the Federal Bureau of Statistics reported.
Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a rise of 0.5 percent.
According to the annual estimate provided by the statistical office, the retail sector in Germany will achieve 1.3% more real sales in 2024 than in 2023.
Real sales in 2024 are expected to be 2.6% above pre-pandemic levels in 2019, the bureau said.
