England’s Ben Stokes shares an update on his recovery after missing the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
England Captain Ben Stokes suffered a series of injuries that affected his cricketing journey. Constant discomfort in his knees and toes forced him to miss most of it Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) season, leaving him on the bench Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His injury problems worsened during the third test against England New Zealand in Hamiltonwhere he suffered a left hamstring injury that required surgery. The 33-year-old has reported on his recovery, but the news could leave fans worried about his future fitness.

During Hamilton’s Test against New Zealand, Stokes bowled a total of 36.2 overs for his team. This was the most knocks by an England Test captain since June 2022. However, England faced a double defeat in the final match of the series as they were beaten by the home side by 423 runs and their captain suffered a serious injury. Stokes suffered another hamstring injury in the same leg while playing for The Hundred in August last year.
On the long road to recovery, Stokes gave an update on his injury before going into surgery via a social media post mockingly calling himself ‘Bionic Man’. The England skipper was expected to undergo surgery this month and has already ruled out cricket for the next three months.

Stokes will miss major cricket competitions to focus on his recovery
Following hamstring surgery, Stokes will require extended care and ongoing rehabilitation before he can step on the field again in any capacity. The England all-rounder has withdrawn his name from the IPL auction and is set to miss it SA20 season, the South African franchise T20 league he was supposed to play for MI Cape Town.
In addition, Stokes is set to miss a number of events in international cricket. He has already been dropped from England’s touring squad India for a 5-match T20I and 3-match ODI series. He should also miss the performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 intended for maintenance in Pakistan this year. Stokes will be aiming to return to England’s Test squad ahead of a long season of Test cricket in which he will play against Zimbabwe in May and a 5-match Test series against India before they embark on their journey Australia to reclaim The Ashes at the end of the year.
