‘Rain Rockets and bullets’: Survivors of Pakistani train abduction | The news of the armed groups

Quetta, Pakistan – Tuesday survivors a deadly train that abducted Baloch separatists described how they watched the passengers disappear and escape while they were shooting.

‘They just took people to the side and shot them’

Travelers who were liberated in the Operation of Security Forces described their captivity classes as “terrible.”

“I saw so many murders in front of my eyes and I knew I was next, but on Wednesday morning I fled with other passengers and colleagues,” Ghulam Sarwar, 48, told Al Jazeera.

Sarwar traveled by train from the Quetta train station, along with four other armed railway staff and five soldiers who were charged with guarding passengers, regular practice. When the attack began, he said that he and other armed staff had returned the fire.

“It was like the rain of rockets and bullets on the train, but we took revenge on the shooting,” he recalled. “When we run out of bullets, they went down and started pulling the travelers out of the train.”

The attackers began to separate the passengers according to the ethnicity by checking their ID cards, removing ethnic Pundzabia travelers and those suspected of being part of the Pakistani army and executing them. “They killed so many people,” Sarwar said. He couldn’t count how many people were killed, he said, but he witnessed a fighter “only by taking groups of people to the side of the railway and shooting into them.”

“The murders continued until 10 pm after a large number of attackers left the area after hugging some of the remaining fighters left behind. They also killed anyone who tried to escape,” Sarwar said.

In the morning, Sarwar and the second group of passengers and security staff were able to escape from the place where hostages were held. “We ran in the morning, but another rail police officer who was with me hit a bullet on the back after the attackers started shooting at us from near the mountains,” he said. The cop was killed, he said.

While he and his passengers escaped, they were shot by separatist fighters, but managed to make him 6 km (4 miles) along the railroads to nearby railway station in Panir, where Pakistani security forces were waiting for them to receive them.

‘I saw a rocket hit the engine’

Murad Ali (68), who traveled to the southern city of Jacobabad with his wife, was also witnessing the attack, but was among those who could free the attackers. “I saw a rocket hit the train engine after hearing intensely shooting. They entered our section and asked my identity and ethnicity [Sindhi] And then he let me go, “he said.

“I followed dozens of women and children and we followed the railway trail six kilometers on foot until we reached the Panir train station after dusk, where the security forces took us to the Mach train station,” he told Al Jazeera. The couple then returned to Quetta.

Bibi Farzan, Murad’s wife, described the train as “completely covered with smoke for shooting and explosion.” She added, “They pulled out all the passengers, but they separated the ethnic fillings from the other passengers.”

On Wednesday, safety officials of Pakistan said that his forces killed 30 fighters in the halter’s rescue operation, and that safety approval still lasts.

Province Minister Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti said the attack of the separatist’s attempt to leave the impression that Quetta was a “violent environment.”

The government said it arranged additional soldiers to Quetta railway station, and dozens of coffins were sent to the place of attack on the train to help with Quetta Station.

Baloch separatists, who require independence from Pakistan, accuse the state of abduction and persecute those who oppose it.

Although this is the first time the whole train has been abducted, there has been a series of attacks on trains in the last two years.

Recently, in November 2024, the separatists killed almost 30 travelers of train – most of Pakistani soldiers – in suicide bombing at Quetta Station, while Jaffar Express was supposed to leave the station.
