Bangladesh field a strong 16-member squad for the white-ball tour of the West Indies

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the squad of the women’s cricket team for their much awaited first tour to the West Indies. This tour marks a significant milestone for the Bangladesh Women’s team as they prepare to compete in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against West Indies Women.

Leadership and team composition

Captain Nigar sultanaknown for her aggressive batting style and tactical acumen, she will lead the charge. Her leadership has been instrumental in transforming the team’s performance in recent years, particularly in T20 cricket. Inclusion of young all-rounders like Fahima Khatun and Fariha Islam adds dynamism to the team, offering both batting depth and bowling options. Spin team department, reinforced with similar people Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khancould pose a significant threat on slow Caribbean pitches.

The selection strategy is also focused on versatility. Tour schedule and importance

The tour will begin with the team from Bangladesh arriving in St. Kitts on January 14, 2025. The ODIs are scheduled for January 19, 21 and 24, while the T20Is will follow on January 27, 29 and 31, all at the iconic Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

This series has special importance due to its alignment with the ICC Women’s Championship, where points from the ODIs will count towards qualifying for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup to be held in India. Currently, Bangladesh are in 7th position with 19 points and a successful tour could significantly increase their chances of direct qualification.
