The Sun announced it Leeds have opened negotiations to sign defender Andrew Omobamidele this month. The Ireland international plays for Nottingham Forest, but has fallen out of favor with Nuno Espirito Santo, and a move could happen this month. Forest is open to the departure of the defender with a loan and the obligation to buy a real possibility. But Leeds face stiff competition, with rivals Sheffield United also interested in signing Omobamidele.
While Omobamidele can arrive at Elland Road, the current Leeds defender Junior Firpo could seal the exit. It has been announced that the defender’s team is laying the foundations for a return to his former team, Real Betis. It is claimed that mediation talks have already taken place between Betis and Firp’s camp.
Leeds interested in signing “clinical” striker
Omobamidele may not be the only arrival for the Yorkshire side, as according to sports publication The Daily Mail, as reported by Football League World, Leeds are interested in signing Mergim Berisha from the Bundesliga team Hoffenheim.
The 26-year-old, who is described as “clinical finisher” analysts Football Chatters, has been with Hoffenheim since August 2023. The striker impressed for Red Bull Salzburg in the 2020/21 season, scoring 14 goals in 28 Bundesliga games, and that form then led to a move to Fenerbahce. He failed to repeat the same form in Turkey, so he moved to Germany, where before Hoffenheim he played for FC Augsburg.
Patrick Bamford could soon be on his way out of Leedsso the Whites have been keeping an eye on potential replacements, with this report stating that Leeds have “shown an interest” in Mergi, who scored 23 goals under former Whites boss Jesse Marsch, despite his lack of goals while playing for Hoffenheim.
Despite his current form, that hasn’t deterred Farke from looking at the forward, who he may be aware of having managed the Bundesliga during his managerial career. Mergim’s ability to play as a centre-forward as well as a winger may also be why he is of interest to the Leeds boss. This is not the first time that Bijele has been linked with a player’s move, because as early as 2022. they were in negotiations to sign Mergim while he was playing for Fenerbahce, and then the Turkish side asked for 5 million euros.
