Justin Trudeau’s resignation was met with happy reactions from conservatives on the Internet: ‘The victory continues!’
Resilient Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sparked joy among his critics on social media when he announced his imminent resignation.
Trudeau announced on Monday he said he intended to resign as party leader and prime minister as pressure from his own Liberal Party mounted amid heightened criticism of his handling of the economy and immigration. He said he would resign when the party elects a new leader.
“I intend to resign as the leader of the party, as prime minister, after the party selects its next leader through a robust competitive process across the country,” Trudeau told reporters. “Last night I asked the president of the Liberal Party to start that process. This country he deserves the right choice in the next election and it has become clear to me that if I have to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in this election.”
Trudeau, who has led the nation for nearly a decade, has been battling a significant drop in his approval ratings for months due to growing frustration over issues such as the soaring cost of living and rising inflation.
Trudeau’s critics over social media, who condemned him on a range of grounds, from trade policy to the treatment of trucker protesters, were jubilant.
President-elect Donald Trump was one such critic who discussed at Truth Social that the time had now come to absorb Canada as a new part of the United States.
“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st country. The United States can no longer put up with the huge trade deficits and subsidies that Canada needs to survive. Justin Trudeau knew this and resigned. If Canada merged with the US, there would be no Customs, taxes would be significantly reduced, and they would be COMPLETELY SAFE from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships constantly surrounding them,” he wrote. “Together, what a great nation that would be!!!”
“THE VICTORY CONTINUES!!!” said conservative actor Rob Schneider. “Bye Bye, JT!! CANADA LIBRE”

Actress Gina Carano shared a video clip of the announcement and offered up a “Honk Honk” in tribute to “Canadian truckers and patriots who stood up for freedom and were brutally demonized and for the future of all Canadians,” referencing the 2022 viral protests against the COVID mandates vaccines. She went on to say, “Keep fighting for real leadership that represents you as a people.”
“Congratulations to Justin Trudeau on his new MSNBC show,” author Carol Roth quipped, seeming to joke that Trudeau, like many fallen political figures, would get a job at the liberal news network.
Some commentators reacted particularly to the papers behind Trudeau’s lectern, presumably his speech, which were blown away before his speech even began.
“This is a metaphor for his entire premiership,” joked Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen.

Amy Eileen Hamm jokingly referred to a famous quote from “The Help” and suggested “It was just 10 pages written in his handwriting that all said, ‘You’re strong. You’re beautiful. You’re important.'”
“Thank heavens” and “good riddance” posts also showered X after his announcement.
