US cyber watchdog says there is no indication Treasury breach affected other federal agencies Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. cyber watchdog agency CISA said on Monday there was “no indication” that a recently reported breach at the U.S. Treasury Department affected any other federal agencies.
Late last month, the US Treasury Department reported that Chinese hackers had compromised an unspecified number of computers after a breach at cybersecurity contractor BeyondTrust.
BeyondTrust said last month that a limited number of customers were affected, but did not elaborate.
“Because the forensic investigation is ongoing, BeyondTrust is unable to confirm other customers who may or may not have been affected,” the company said in an email Monday.
The Washington Post reported that hackers broke into the US Treasury office that administers economic sanctions, specifically with the goal of stealing information about Chinese entities that the US government may be considering placing under financial sanctions.
Republican lawmakers have requested a briefing on the breach, the latest in a series of intrusions blamed on Beijing.
Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, previously described the Treasury Department’s hacking reports as “irrational” and constituted “slanderous attacks” against China.
