Giants’ John Mara jokes that he was mad at Saquon Barkley about the ad, he wanted to participate

New York Giants co-owner John Mara joked Monday that he’s mad at Saquon Barkley for a commercial he made that seemingly flopped at the end of his tenure with the team.

Mara famously said during an episode of “Hard Knocks” earlier this year that he would have trouble sleeping if Barkley joined the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. Of course, Barkley signed with the Eagles and helped them to the NFC East title.

Barkley’s commercial aired last weekend, and Mara spoke about it after announcing the team would retain general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll for the 2025 season.

“I called him before the game and told him I was very angry with him based on our relationship for so many years. He said, ‘What do you mean?’ I said you could have at least asked me to be in the commercial with you,” said Mara.

“I said I could spin and spin. I said there’s an acting gene in our family. It’s not just my nieces.”

Barkley’s commercial for Unis was released on Thursday.

“I heard some of you have trouble sleeping, so I wrote you a lullaby,” Barkley said in the ad. “Rockabye baby, wake up in your bed with the thought of 2000 swirls running through your head. It must be hard to lose sleep over football – not for me though. Good night everyone.”

Barkley finished with 101 yards less than the single-season home run record.
