Survivors often reluctantly report that they were undergoing sexual violence because of social stigma and fear of retaliation from armed groups and rejection from family.

UNICEF has called on the Sudan government and all sides in a conflict to respect their obligations to the protection of civilians, especially children, while those who provide services to survivors must be protected.

“Children who are young as one who raped armed men should shock anyone to the core and make an immediate action,” Russell said.
