Mazda to Build Modular Pack Factory for Cylindrical Lithium-Ion Automotive Batteries in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture By Investing.com
HIROSHIMA, Japan, January 06, 2025 – (JCN Newswire) – – Mazda Motor (OTC:) Corporation (Mazda) announced that it will build a new automotive cylindrical lithium-ion battery module pack plant in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. . The new plant will produce automotive cylindrical lithium-ion battery cell modules and packs sourced from Panasonic (OTC:) Energy Co., Ltd. (Panasonic Energy). The completed battery packs will be incorporated into Mazda’s first battery electric vehicle using a dedicated EV platform and will be manufactured at Mazda’s vehicle plant in Japan. The annual production capacity is planned at 10 GWh.
In accordance with the 2030 Management Policy, Mazda is continuously preparing for electrification technologies based on a multi-solution strategy that provides a range of technological options to meet customer needs and regulatory changes, to contribute to solving the social problem of curbing global warming.
