Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10) says that on Saturday night he was supposed to win the WBA light champion Gervont Davis (30-0-1, 28 ko), and he would have had a real call in the ninth when the tank hit his knee after hitting Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Many fans on social networks believed that Roach had won, and they had never seen the tank look so bad before. Inactivity, a weak resume, and he overlooked him Roach may have cost him.
Roach says he did not rely on the section to beat him because he thought he had done more than enough to win the decision. The judges achieved it with a majority of 12, 15-113 results for tank, 114-114 and 114-114. It certainly looked like Roach won the fight even when the judge blowing a call in the ninth.
“I thought I should have won without counting it as to knock down,” Lamont Roach said to MediaSpeaking of a blower call of the judge, who decided that he was not credited with giving up Gervont Davis in the ninth round when he took his knee.
Obviously helps that Tank Davis was a superstar in this fight and the one who sold out the Barclays Center. If the judge had made a real call on the ninth side, he would have messed up things for the popular money manufacturer.
“If he had to wipe his sweat out of his eye, he had to erase sweat from his eye. But the rules state that if you voluntarily take his knee, it’s automatic eight numbers. I didn’t rely on it.
“I took control, I landed more shooters and I landed more shooting power. I thought I was doing my own things. So, I’m not so frustrated because of it, but if it were a knockout like a knockout, I would win a majority decision.
“Did you see me in the ring to say, ‘Continue to count? “I was like, ‘Why did you stop? Continue to count,” Roach said about how he did not understand why the judge stopped counting after Davis entered his knee in the ninth. “I honestly don’t know [about why the referee didn’t rule it a knockdown]. “
