The leader of one of the largest Australian radio networks apologized after comments about the national women’s football team were sentenced as a mysoginist and disrespect.
Marty Sheargold said that Matilda’s players reminded him of “girls 10.” And he decided that the matches were boring.
The Australian management body in sports said that the remarks were broadcast live on the Triple M -“unacceptable” and “deep disappointing”.
They also “diminish the extraordinary achievements” of a team that were semi -finalists at the World Cup of women in 2023, added football Australia.
On Wednesday, Sheargold made a short statement stating: “Every comedy, including mine, can sometimes miss the brand and see why people may have offended my comments regarding Matilda. I honestly apologize.”

During his show on Monday afternoon, Sheargold intervened during the sports newsletter, which discussed the defeat of Australia from the USA to his second consecutive loss in Shebelieves Cup.
“You know what reminds me of the girls of the 10th year,” Sheargold said, a laugh of his co -organizers.
“All subjects and all friendship questions … I’m sorry to undermine the whole sport now, but I think about it.”
When his colleague named the Shebelieves Cup by name, Sheargold interrupted, saying, “Oh, she believes what? Better to be men.”
And when she was referred to Australia next year, hosted by the ASian Asian Cup AFC, he said “Oh God – Asian Cup” before criticizing an obscene comment. He then asked his co -organizer, “Do you have male sports?”
Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company Triple M, said the comments “do not reconcile with the views and values of Triple M, and Triple M remains unwavering in the strong support of all women’s and men’s sports.”
“We are sorry for any crime,” it was said.
Sports Minister Anika Wells called the comments “Bure, bored and wrong”.
“The Australian most watched television event has ever been the semifinals of Matildas World Cup; Tillies’s Quarterfinal is the second most watched event in Australian history,” Ms. Wels said.
The Australian Olympic Ambrosia Malone, which represents its land in hockey, also criticized Sheargold.
“Everything I could think was young girls sitting in a car with their parents, maybe on their way to or from their own training sessions,” she wrote on social networks.
“I’m sure many of them would be hurt and confused … I was in disbelief.
“This is seemingly acceptable on the main afternoon radio ??? How ??”
Australia football added: “This incident is a sharp reminder of the media and personality of responsibility in encouraging respect and constructive discussions about women’s sports and its participants.”
