GERVONTA ‘Tank’ Davis’ trainer Kenny Ellis indicated that Tank’s weight at 139.2 lbs with 55 days left until he defends his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Lightweight is full of bullies, hot light heavyweights who choose to fight in this weight class because they have huge advantages once they rehydrate. Tank believes in himself and does not need to use these tactics to win. there is whole a nest of more serious bullies at 135. Division needs rehydration limits.

With two months to go, Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) only needs to lose 4.2 lbs to make the 135 lb weight limit for his fight against Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) on March 1st. That’s unheard of in this era, with all the heavier bullies fighting one to two divisions below their size.
The tank is old school and pure class, picking fights in the right category without trying to do gimmicky things to take advantage of fighting smaller types. He would drop down to featherweight at 126 or even 122 if he could destroy a smaller opponent with his size.
Given Davis’ size, he should fight in the super bantamweight division. That would put him in a position to challenge the Japanese star Naoya Inouewho holds all four belts in the 122 lb weight class. Inoue would have no excuse for not fighting Tank if he was fighting in that division, where he should be given his small size.
If Tank is already 139.2 lbs 55 days from March 1st, he should be fighting at 122, not 135, where he would be aiming for Inoue. Still, you can understand why Tank chooses to fight at 135, because it’s easier to make weight and he has more names to fight. At 122, it’s just Inoue and a bunch of obscure villains that fans in the US have never heard of.
The cockroach is the same size or larger than the container. Although the Roach is gaining weight, it is the size of a tank. So the fan’s argument that Tank is fighting a shorter guy is wrong. He and Roach are basically the same size.
