Cody Gakpo sends an emotional contract plea to Mohamed Salah
Cody Gakpo has admitted he wants to continue working with Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, urging the Egyptian to sign a contract extension.
Salah is approaching the final six months of his current deal and will be free to discuss a deal with overseas clubs in just days, with several of the world’s richest sides said to be lining up offers.
Liverpool we hope to keep Salah, but we have yet to agree on new terms. The 32-year-old recently confirmed that it exists no updates to provide about his future after the 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
That game saw Salah move up to fourth in Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring charts, with Gakpo admitting he hopes Salah will be scoring goals at Anfield for years to come.
“It’s very special what we’re all witnessing,” he said club media. “The amount of goals he scores, but also the assists he gives, the way he plays, how he puts other attacking players or midfielders like me in a position to score and be dangerous is at a high level.
“I hope for us and for him that he can continue that for a long time. We’re very lucky to have him and proud to be his teammate and try to make him better. And he’s trying to make us better as well.”
January could be a nervous period for Liverpool, with Salah free to discuss a move away along with centre-back Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Like Salah, Van Dijk recently confirmed that he has no news to offer, but refused to set a deadline for his negotiations.
