Ipswich Town are closing in on a Ben Godfrey transfer
The Tractor Boys are closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window after transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano revealed the Premier League side were in talks to sign Godfrey from Atalanta.

The defender joined the Serie A side last summer, but Godfrey has struggled in Italy, making just five appearances in all competitions, none of them as a starter. Despite joining the club just six months ago and under contract until 2029, Godfrey is now set for a move to Portman Road.
According to Roman, who stated earlier this week that Ipswich were in loan talks, an agreement has now been reached in which Ipswich to sign Godfrey on loan until the end of the season. The 26-year-old completed the first part of his medical examination on Saturday, and now documents are being exchanged between the clubs. McKenna will be hoping the arrival of Godfrey, who has plenty of experience playing in the Premier League, will help his side’s defense as they try to get a little more solid at the back.
Ipswich Town have offered £16m to sign the “explosive” player
As they move closer to signing Godfrey, according to The Athletic, Ipswich also bid £16m for Ben Doak from Liverpool this month, but it was an offer that was rejected.
Doak, who is described as “Explosive” John McGinn from Aston Villa, is currently on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough. The winger joined Boro at the end of the summer transfer window and it has been an impressive spell so far, as he has provided goals and assists to help Michael Carrick’s side fight for the play-offs.
The Athletic report that Ipswich have made a £16m bid to sign Doak, who has been capped six times by Scotland, but Liverpool have rejected the offer. This offer comes later Crystal Palace have made a £15m bid to sign the Scottish winger on Friday.
Liverpool are said to be pleased with the progress Doak has made during his loan spell at the Riverside Stadium and prefer him to stay at Middlesbrough until the end of the campaign. Doak has made 10 appearances for Liverpool so far, and although he has yet to score or assist, the Merseysiders hold him in high esteem. However, Ipswich could be tempted to make a new and improved bid for Doak to test Liverpool’s resolve, while McKenna looks to improve his squad further.
