What is Solheim Cup?
Solheim Cup is a three-day competition that is played between teams of 12 players from the US and Europe.
The event was launched in 1990 and was appointed in honor of Karsten and Louise Solheim and Family – founder Karsten Manufacturing Corporation, which makes ping golf equipment.
The largest team tournament in the Women’s Golf, where Team USA Face Team Europe, is held from September 11 to September 13, 2026.
The Solheim Cup has returned to many years to avoid the conflict with the Ryder Cup, which moved to an odd number of years after being postponed in 2020. Due to the Coid-19 pandemia.
This resulted in the fact that the Solheim Cup took place in the years back 2023 and 2024, but now returns to a two -year competition – like a Ryder Cup – as it was before.
The tournament was first headed to the Netherlands in 2026, and Bernardus Golf – a course previously used for the Dutch open at DP World Tour – confirmed as a place.
The championship course, designed by American architect Kyle Phillips, is described as a Golf Terrain Heathland with ticklish dangers of water, compact appearance, architecturally stunning club houses and world class facilities.
The 2028 edition should be held at the Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky, 20 years from the host Ryder Cup, and the host courses for all future competitions are yet to be announced.
What is the format?
28 matches were played over three days, under three different types of matches – a four -legged, a quadrangle and a single – with each match worth one point. A team that first receives 14.5 points will win the Solheim Cup.
There are two sessions quadrangleAnyone containing four matches of two golfers from Europe competing against the USA from the USA. The team members alternate between the shots and each team uses one ball.
Quadrangle Two golfers from each team also compete, but each player uses their own ball, with the lowest result from each couple to count on their total number in that match.
All players compete on Sunday singleWhere every member of the American team plays against a European opponent in a head competition.
The first two players on the European List of Solheim Cups, earned from appearances at the Ladies European Tour have previously been made up of the European side, and the qualifying period lasted until the summer of 2026.
The next six available players on the world charts are traditionally qualified, and four captains have completed the European line.
The best seven players on the Solheim Cup list at the end of the qualifying period, based on the points accumulated by all events in the ranking, will provide an automatic qualification for the Team USA.
The next two players on the Rolex Women World Golf rankings at the end of the qualifying period – which has not already qualified – will also earn a place, while the captain will have three elections to complete his lineup.
The qualifying campaign began at the FM Championship 2024, and will end in the summer of 2026, although the end and final qualifying tournament has yet to be confirmed.
Anna Nordqvist was appointed European captain 2026, after performing nine consecutive appearances as a player and playing a double role as a vice -president for the last two competitions.
The Swede was succeeded by Suzann Pettersen, who was a captain for the release back in 2023 and 2024, and Nordqvist has yet to announce who he will include as part of his rear room team.
Who is the captain of the United States?
The Team USA has not yet announced who will be their captain for 2026.
Stacy Lewis was a captain for the previous two editions and was opened for the third term, just as Juli Inkster did in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
Angela Stanford and Morgan Pressel, both vice-captains for each of the previous two Solheim cups, are other potential options.
Who won the Solheim Cup earlier?
Tim USA endured the final return of Team Europe to ask for a win of 15.5-12.5 and won the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2017.
Lewis’s side took advantage of a 10-6 advantage at Sunday Single at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, leaving them only to win 4.5 points to win, and Megan Khang, Allisen Corpuz and Rose Zhang announces big victories to move them closer to their target.
Charley Hull led from the front in Thrash World No. 1 Nelly Korda and Georgia Hall also claimed a great victory to raise hopes to the historic European return, with seven matches on the trail or tied or for the benefit of the Pettersen’s side at that stage.
Celine Boutiier and Leon Maguire won in their matches to bring Europe closer to 14 points needed to win the fourth time in a row, only to secure Lilia Vu a half points needed to win when she scored the last two holes to bind against Rookie Albana Valenzuel.
