Stockholm – The legend of Skeytbord Tony Hawk once rejected half a million dollars in future author’s fees from the popular Pro Skater video game – and says it was the “best financial decision” of his life.
Hawku was offered $ 500,000 in a one -time bandelion contract to use his name and character for Activision’s Pro Skater title, published in 1999.
Speaking at a conference of technology technology in Stockholm on Thursday, Hawk said that when he received a proposal, it “didn’t seem like a real number” to me.
He finally decided to refuse him, citing success and in his personal and professional life to give him an incentive to take the risk and take away the offer.
“I had a family, I just bought a new house and I felt like I could afford a mortgage. And I thought, in my life it goes pretty well outside this video game project,” Hawk said.
“And so I thought, I can afford the opportunity. And so, it was a happy time of it, so I refused it. It was the absolutely best financial decision in my life,” he added.
Instead, Hawk negotiated an arrangement for an author’s gait under which he would get a reduction for each copy sold.
“It was a much better offering,” Hawk said, adding, “That’s probably one of the reasons why I’m here today.”
Immediately after Hawk rejected the check, Activision mentioned the sequel to the game – which means that Hawk’s earnings will continue.
The Licensing Agreement between Hawk and Activision, which is now owned by the technological giant Microsoft, lasted 16 years until 2015.
