Iran has accused British Craig and Lindsay Foreman of Spying, accusing them of collecting intelligence data while they were in the country and had anything to do with foreign intelligence services hostile to the Islamic Republic.
“They entered Iran under the guise of tourist and research projects, but collected information in several provinces,” said a spokesman for the judiciary Asghar Jahangir on Tuesday to local journalists. “These individuals collaborated with the front organizations associated with the intelligence services of Western and hostile countries.”
The couple, who traveled to their motorcycles, was arrested last month in the southeastern Province of Kerman. On Tuesday, the judiciary confirmed that the Iranian elite Islamic revolutionary corpus was responsible for their arrest.
Videos on how they laugh, dance and enjoy their time in Iran ever since they have become viral on Iranian social media.
The Foremanci case is the latest in a series of arrests of western and double nationals in Iran for charges related to spies. European governments often cite these detention as a key source of tension with Tehran, together with other disputes, including the Iranian nuclear program and regional policies.
The arrests also come in the time of increased tensions between Iran and the USA. According to her “maximum pressure” policy, the Donald Trump administration again scored festive sanctions to Iran and vowed to prevent him from getting nuclear weapons.
Washington also requested the end of Tehran military activities in the Middle East and restrictions in its Balistic missile program.
Iran, however, insisted that it would resist us pressure and exclude negotiations with Trump’s administration. While Iranian leaders held diplomatic channels opened with European forces – including Britain, France and Germany, which signed a 2015 nuclear agreement – expressed frustration over European UN re -exposing sanctions on Iran because of its nuclear activities.
It remains unclear whether Tehran will arrest the British couple as a potential influence in future negotiations, in which the role of Britain could be significant in influence on American politics.
The case is compared to the high detention of the British-Iran national National Nazanin Zaghari-Scliffe, who had been in Iran for six years on charges that he had planned the overthrow of the Islamic Republic before being released in 2022. Renating £ 400 million in Iranian funds after decades of dispute.
The Foremanica family, in a statement on Saturday published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hoped for their “safe return” to home.
“This unexpected turn of the event has caused significant concerns for our whole family, and we are deeply focused on ensuring their safety and well -being during this attempt,” it is said. “We are actively hanging out with the British government and relevant authorities, diligently working on the movement of the complexity of this issue.”
