Washington Democrats introduce legislation to remove George Washington from the State Flag
Progressive Washington state The MPs introduced a bill that could remove George Washington from the state flag.
House Bill 1938 aims to create a committee that will devise a new state flag that “better reflects the diversity and values of all Washingtonans.”
According to democratic legislators who proposed the bill, the state flag “often faces criticism for poor design and lack of importance for the identity of the state.”

The draft would set up a committee for the development of a new design for an official state flag that reflects “common history, resources and a diverse cultural community of Washington”.
The Committee would consist of representatives of the State Arts Commission in Washington, legislators from home and Senate, state secretary, historian, designer, cultural leaders, representatives of tribes and representatives of citizens from different regions of the state, appointed by the manager.
The Committee would then request feedback to the public through schools, in joint organizations, tribes, public forums, virtual discussions and internet surveys before approved by a new design by July 1, 2028.

Voters must approve the new flag design in the next general election before being adopted as a new state flag.
Representatives of the Democratic State of Stroma Peterson, Julia Reed and Greg Nance presented the Proposal of the Law on February 11th.
It is planned for a public debate in Olympia before the State Government Committee and tribal relations on February 18th, Reported Fox28 Spokane.
