The two best men’s and female boxers from Kazakhstan are retired. They were both world champions: Gennadiy “Triple G” Golovkin, held by WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO World Middleweight titles, and Christina Hammer, who held WBC and WBO World Middleweight titles and WBO Super Middleewites.
Golovkin, an Olympic Silver Medal from 2004 in Athens, Greece, became professional in 2006 after an amateur record of 345-8 and later as a promoter (GGG promotion).
He had 37-0 when on September 16, 2017, in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, he held a controversial draw of a division decision. He chased Alvarez’s last seven rounds around the ring. Dave Moretti made him a decision 115-113 and draw with Don Trell 114-114. Judge Adalaide Byrd had 118-110 for Alvarez and no longer judged 30 days. She retired in 2024.
Golovkin was wrong with changing his coaches in 2017 or 2019 from Abela Sanchez to Jonathan Banks. Either way, he moved from the style of piercing to the boxer-Puncher in Rungeo after reaching a knockout in his next fight against Wanes Martirosyan, 36-3-1, at the Hall Center, Carson, ca. He had twenty-three combat knockouts stopped in his previous fight, beating Daniel ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs, 32-1, in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Alvarez’s rematch was again in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 15, 2018, where he lost the majority decision. Only on September 2, 2022, some four years later, they fought for the third time. He then retired at the age of 40. I tried to reach for his latest promoter, Tom Loeffler (K2 Promotion), but I didn’t get an answer about whether he was retired.
Golovkin defended himself in January 2013 against Philadelphi’s Gabe ‘King’ Rosado, which he stopped in seven rounds on MSG when I contacted one of his sparring partners, Dhafir ‘NO Fear’ Smith of Philly, who had twice has been in Camp with Super Midlewem Champ Andre ‘Sog’ Ward. He said he did not know who would win between Ward and Golovkin. He stated that Golovkin “hit like a heavy category!” Also at the camp was Philly’s Farah Ennis (brother of the current Ibf Welter Champ ‘Boots’ Ennis), who, talking to with, said, “He beat the shit from me!” I spoke briefly with Golovkin.
Golovkin’s final record was 42-2-1 with 37 knockouts, with a safe ibhof future inductee who also stayed in LA, ca.
Christina Hammer had 24-0 when I met her at Atlantic City before her fight with the current world champion Claress’s ‘T-Rex’ Shields, where he lost WBC and WBO titles for IBF and WBA Champion Shields.
Covering that fight, US referee Sparkle Lee entered between the boxer whenever Hammer went offen, helping Shields to win a decision. Later I said Hammer in the locker room that he was still champion in my eyes.
Hammer, discouraged from getting a rematch, has returned to her residence in Germany, not fighting for ten months, continued to win the next five fights against non-concrender, except in winning the Wibf Super Middle Category in December 2020 against Sanna Against Sanna against Sanna Turunen in Germany, where all other fights have been held since she lost the title to Shields. In May 2022, the last fought before he retired at the age of 32.
Golovkin and Hammer have made controversial decisions that have changed their careers, and now they are retired and loss of boxing.
