New Zealand Rugby has launched a legal lawsuit against former Ineos sponsors for allegedly violating the contract, saying that the global chemical manufacturer has stepped down from a six -year agreement three years ago.
The administrative body of the NZR and Ineos – owned by the British billionaire Sir Ratcliffe – signed the sponsorship of sponsorship in 2021, which was supposed to last from 2022-27, but allegedly violated them forced them to interrupt the relationships.
The deal included Ineos branding on the back of playing shorts and on the front of the jerseys for the three -time world champion All Blacks and other national men’s and female rugby teams.
NZR said that In the late January, Ineos informed them that they intended to get out of the agreement in force from January 1.
“The New Zealand rugby is disappointed that Ineos violated the sponsorship agreement,” NZR said in a statement.
“Recently, he has not been able to pay the first war of sponsorship fees in 2025, confirming his decision to leave our six -year agreement.
“Finding out about Ineos’ decision to leave three years earlier, we have moved to protect the interests of the New Zealand rugby and the wider game. We are left without possibilities except for the initiation of legal procedures to protect our commercial position.”
The news comes after Ineos supported the British American Cup last year, but announced in January that he split with skipper’s crew Ben Ainslie, who lost 7-2 in New Zealand in the final series.
Ratcliffe bought a minority share for £ 1.25 billion last year to buy a 27.7 percent stake in Manchester United last year, which increased to £ 28.94 in December – another £ 79 million – in December.
Sky Sports News contacted Ineos for comment.
