Hegsetth Ordesr Fort Liberty to get back to Fort Bragg

Defense Minister Pete Hegsetth sent on Monday US Army To change the name Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg, but with a turn.
Hegsetth signed a memorandum on the US Air Force C-17 before landing in Stuttgart in Germany, ordered the renaming of the base in North Carolina Fort Roland L. Bragg, not the general container, which was the previous namesake.

The name of the military installation was changed in 2023 as part of a wide initiative of the Ministry of Defense, motivated 2020. Protests George Floydrename the military installations that bear the name of the conferacration soldiers.
The base was originally named 1918 for General Braxton Bragg, a Confederate General from Warrenton, North Carolina, who was known for possessing slaves and losing key battles from the civil war that contributed to the decline in the Confederation.
The new name pays tribute to PFC. Roland L. Bragg, a World War II A hero who earned a silver star and a purple heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of Bulge.
“During these hellish conditions and in the midst of angry fights, Pfc. Bragg saved the life of a fellow soldiers, hiring enemy ambulances and driving him 20 miles to transport a colleague of a wounded warrior to the Field Hospital in Belguim,” he said in a memorandum.

Military installation is one of the largest in the world and is a home of a well -known army of 82. Airline Division and Command of Special Operations of the United States (SSSOCOM).
“The Directive respects personal courage and selfless service of all those who have trained to fight and conquer the wars of our country, including PFC Blegg, and is in accordance with the prized and historical history of the installation,” the letter said.
In addition to the North Carolina base, several other military places were renamed, including Fort Benning, a home to a military pedestrian school, in Fort Moore, after the late Lieutenant General Hal Moore, commander of the Vietnam War, and Hood Fort Cavazosa, named after General Richard Edward Cavazos, a four -star general that fought in Korean and in Vietnamese wars.

At the time, the army renamed several bases, retired concerns of the US army. General Ty Seidule said at the Commission meeting that Fort Liberty was chosen as a new name because “freedom remains the greatest American value.”
