Chelsea’s injured strikers are heading to Portugal for a winter training camp


Chelsea strikers Sam Kerr and Mia Fishel will travel to Portugal for their club’s summer training camp to continue their injury recovery.

Australian international Kerr has not been named Chelseahas been with the team since January 2024, when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Last month, head coach Sonia Bompastor said she was expecting The 31-year-old will return in February or March.

United States forward Fishel has also yet to play for the west London side after suffering the same injury in February 2024. While both players will not be training with the rest of the squad and will instead continue with their own recoveries, their addition is a very promising step in the right direction.

The Blues are currently top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) after picking up 28 points during the first half of the 2024/25 season, staying six points clear of Manchester City.

They also repeated their perfect start to the UEFA Women’s Champions League, reaching the quarter-finals and maintaining their winning streak.

The squad will now spend the next week training in Portugal ahead of their first game of 2025, hosting Charlton Athletic in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at Kingsmeadow on January 12. They will then later return to WSL duty on January 19, with a visit to third-from-bottom West Ham United.
